Manufactured in 1881, this is a Second Model rifle with the dust cover guide rail attached to the top of the receiver by two screws. The top barrel flat is marked "WINCHESTER'S REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT/KING'S IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29, 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860" ahead of the rear sight and "CAL 45-60" at the breech. The bottom of the cartridge carrier is marked "45-60", the upper tang is marked "MODEL 1876" and the serial number is located on the rear of the lower tang. Blade front and folding ladder rear sights and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with steel end cap and straight grip stock with a steel crescent buttplate and buttstock compartment (cleaning rod not included). The accompanying factory letter verifies the rifle configuration, caliber, octagon barrel, plain trigger, that it was received in the warehouse on December 10, 1881 and shipped to order number 32439 on April 24, 1882.

Good. The metal surfaces have a smooth brown patina. The wood has been refinished and remains good with a few minor dings and handling marks. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
