Description:

Manufactured prior to 1989 and not shipped until 1900. Blade front and adjustable buckhorn sporting rear sights with a full length magazine tube. The two line address is stamped on top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight with "38-55" at the breech. There is a tang mounted short range peep sight. Blue finish with casehardened lever and hammer and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with a metal forend cap and crescent buttplate. The accompanying factory letter verifies the rifle configuration, 38/55caliber, octagon barrel, plain trigger, that the serial number was applied on November 10, 1899, that it was received in the warehouse on November 18, 1899 and shipped to order number 71006 on September 10, 1900.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The rifle retains 40% thin original blue finish mixed with smooth gray and brown patina and extensive pitting. The forend cap has a smooth mottled silver gray patina, and the hammer and lever have a mottled brownish gray patina with flashes of original case colors in protected areas and some minor pitting on the hammer. The wood is very good as revarnished some time ago with most of the varnish remaining; loss concentrated on the stock, showing some minor dents and dings. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
