This is a very fine example of a Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle that was manufactured in 1892. The rifle has a blued barrel, magazine, loading gate and bolt. The forearm cap, receiver, hammer, trigger, lever and crescent buttplate are color casehardened. The stock and forearm are oil finished, straight grain American walnut. The rifle has a 26 inch full octagon barrel and full length magazine. The barrel has a standard sporting style front sight with nickel silver blade and a folding adjustable leaf rear sight; the sight is graduated to 100 yards and is marked "1886" at the top of the leaf. The upper receiver tang is factory drilled and tapped for a rear sight. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.-" in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The caliber "45-70" is stamped on the top barrel flat just ahead of the receiver. The upper tang is roll-stamped with the designation "-MODEL 1886-". The 1884/1885 patent dates are stamped on the lower tang below the trigger and the serial number "82162" is stamped in script numerals between the tang screws.

Very fine. The rifle is all original and retains 80% of the original blue and 70% casehardened finish. The barrel and magazine have some very minor finish loss on the edges and some scattered spots of surface discoloration but remain in excellent condition. The bolt and loading gate retain most of the blue finish. At least 90% of the case colors are present on the receiver; wear is limited to some thinning of the case colors on contact points and a few, scattered patches of age discoloration on the sides of the receiver. The hammer and trigger have nearly all of the casehardened finish intact; the lever has some age discoloration and dark spots on contact points. The crescent buttplate has a dark patina with some small patches of surface rust on the bottom. The stock and forearm are very good and have some light finish wear and minor handling marks. The action is tight and the rifle is in excellent mechanical condition. This is a very fine example of a Winchester Model 1886, .45-70 Lever Action Rifle.
