Manufactured in 1882. This Third Model Rifle has the dust cover guide rail integrally machined to the receiver, full length magazine, blade front sight and folding ladder rear sight. The ladder of the sight is stamped "1876" and is graduated 2-10. The top of the barrel is stamped "WINCHESTER'S REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT/KING'S IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29, 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860" ahead of the rear sight and "45-60" at the breech. The brass cartridge elevator is marked "CAL 45-60". The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1876" inside floral brackets and the lower tang has the serial number. Mounted on a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with forend cap and crescent buttplate with compartment (cleaning rod not included).

Very good. The rifle retains 25% faded original blue finish with the balance a dark brown patina. Some minor pitting is present. The revarnished wood is very good with a number of minor handling marks with a series of gouges and a large missing surface chip on the left side of the buttstock. Mechanically fine.
