Built on a top-break frame manufactured between 1886-1913 with a total production of 15,340. Although cataloged until 1913, all frames were manufactured prior to 1899 making the entire production of this model classified as an antique for ATF purposes. The top of the barrel rib is marked with the two line address/patent dates, (changed to one line address around 1900), and the matching serial number is marked on the butt, rear cylinder face and inside of the right grip panel. The rear of the barrel rib is marked "1410" on the right side and "5239" on the left. Pinned blade front and notch rear sights, nickel finish with blue trigger guard, and casehardened hammer and trigger. Fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with "S&W" monogram at the top and patent date on the lower left panel. The revolver comes with a contemporary wooden case and original box of 50 count U.M.C. 44 caliber ammunition.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 95% original nickel finish with scattered minor flaking, concentrated mainly on the cylinder, left side of the frame and on the front strap. The trigger guard retains 90% original bright blue finish with some thinning and light spotting. Most of the bright original case colors remain on the hammer and strong, 40% case colors remain on the trigger. The grips are also very fine with some minor scuffing on the lower right side, minor handling marks and crisp checkering. The barrel rib marking is crisp and clear. The action is fine. The case is excellent. The ammunition box is fine with the top label 98% intact, most of the seal remains and there is some stains on the bottom.
