Description:

This is an example of a Colt Model 1873 Cavalry revolver that was manufactured in 1891 and inspected by Ordnance Sub-Inspector Rinaldo A. Carr. The top of the barrel is marked with one line address: "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". The left side of the frame is stamped with the Colt two line, three patent dates followed by "U.S.". The serial number "140084 is partially visible on the bottom of the frame below "R.A.C.". The trigger guard and back strap serial numbers have been struck and ground off, and the bottom of the barrel under the ejector housing is marked "0084". "R.A.C." is also visible on the underside of the barrel as well as the letter "P". The loading gate is stamped with the assembly number "1972". A Colt "K" and "O" inspection mark is stamped in the hammer well. Blade front and frame notch rear sights, and fitted with a smooth one-piece walnut grip. Comes with a homemade leather holster. The revolver does not fit properly in the holster.

Rating Definition:

Very good as modified. The revolver retains a trace of original blue finish concentrated on the ejector housing and barrel with a smooth mottled grayish patina on the balance. The grip is good with heavy wear on the lower left side, as well as a small deep gouge. There is some minor wear on the lower right side and a few minor chips along the edge. The action needs work, the hammer does not always hold a cock position. Except for the aforementioned serial numbers and U.S., the markings are clear (see above). The holster is fair with numerous age cracking, separated lining and some separated stitching.
