According to notes provided by the consignor, this club was produced by the Oneida Tribe, one of the original Five Nations of the Iroquois League. Reportedly produced in the vicinity of Kanowalohare, one of the Oneida's chief villages and center of the ministry of missionary Samuel Kirkland, who would be credited for convincing the Oneida and Tuscarora Tribes to go against the other members of the Iroquois League and support the American Revolutionaries, triggering a Civil War in the Mohawk Valley concurrent with the American Revolution. Measuring 22 inches in overall length, the main body of the club is hardwood, with the "striker head" of the club carved into the form of a human skull clutched by a skeletal hand, with fine detail such as individually carved and installed teeth. The shaft is decorated lightly with brass tacks, with a hide wrapped grip section and a 2 3/4 inch long iron spike on the pommel.

Very good, with some mild handling marks overall. One of the left teeth is absent from the skull, and a few scuffs are visible on the grip wrap. A unique item, to say the least!
