Description:

This is a very fine example of an early DWM Model 1902 Luger carbine rig, complete with the matching walnut shoulder stock. These stocked Luger carbines were produced on a very limited basis from 1900-1920, as an early attempt to produce a lightweight rifle substitute, to compete with the Mauser Broomhandle carbines. The unique feature found only on these early carbines is the 11 3/4 inch barrel, with DWM factory frame hanger that holds the small walnut forend; with small spring accelerator mechanism inside that helps cycle the longer carbine barrel during firing. The additional early features are the old style frame with the flat mainspring, grip safety, dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side, and the recessed/flat breech bolt with the small spring extractor. The chamber area of the barrel extension is blank with the DWM logo on the front toggle. The right side of the breech block, toggle and underside of the barrel are all stamped with the "Crown/ B, U and or G" proofs. The full serial number (24549) is correctly marked on the underside of the frame extension and underside of the barrel. The forend is correctly numbered (549), inside, in the cutout for the frame extension. The last two digits of the serial number (49) are stamped on the bottom of the recoil lug, side of the grip safety, trigger, takedown lever, side plate, breech bolt, and toggle assembly. The grips and firing pin are all un-numbered. As very fine 1902 Luger Carbine comes with the original matching attaching iron correctly numbered on top (549) with the original walnut shoulder. The stock and forend are both correctly fitted with a set of sling swivels and both features original DWM factory checkering. The stock also has the correct style plastic butt plate. This scarce pistol is complete with one original nickel plated magazine with a correct unnumbered wood base.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% of the slightly faded original blue finish overall with minor blue loss on the front left side of the barrel with thinning on the front grip strap, mixed with minor edge and high spot wear. The grips are fine overall with nice original checkering showing a couple minor handling marks. The stock and forend are very fine with a nice matching dark walnut color overall with near excellent checkering showing only some minor handling marks. As noted this very desirable Model 1902 Luger carbine has matching numbers on all the parts except those noted above.
