The breech block is marked "U.S./MODEL/1873" and the lock plate is marked with the eagle/shield motif and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" ahead of the hammer. The two barrel bands are correctly marked with the letter "U" on the right side. Blue finish with casehardened breech block and barrel tang and oil finished walnut stock. The stock wrist has a script "SWP/1885" boxed cartouche and a circled "P" is stamped behind the trigger guard. A checkered metal grip has been added to the stock. The buttplate has the "US" marking along with the number "16".

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The rifle retains 98% original blue finish with some loss at the muzzle and some thinning to a brown. The breech block and tang retain 95% plus original case colors. The pistol grip has a smooth dark patina. The stock is very fine with some minor pressure dents and scratches. The cartouche is clear. Mechanically excellent.
