This is an example of a 8 gauge shotgun manufactured by J.L. Wood of Stanford, England. The locks, frame, hammers and under lever are lightly engraved with fine English scroll designs. Single bead sight on the smooth concave solid rib marked ""J.L. WOOD, STANFORD". Each lock is marked "J.L. WOOD". The water table and bottom of the barrels are marked with British proof marks as well as "NOT FOR BALL" on each barrel. Extractor and mounted with a checkered wedge retained splinter walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with a horn grip cap and leather recoil pad. The right barrel chokes at .030 and the left .025. Length of pull is 14 3/8 inches.

Very good as refinished. The barrels retain most of the thinning brown finish and shows almost all of the Damascus pattern. The locks and frame show strong case colors mainly in protected areas with a mix of smooth silver gray and dark patina on the balance. The wood is also very good. The stock has been revarnished and shows a few minor scratches. The recoil pad has dried out and is hard with some deteriorating.
