Founded in 1857, the arms works of Johann Peterlongo would remain active through both World Wars and into the 1970s. Ramped blade front sight and fixed rear sight mounted on a matte quarter rib. The quarter rib is also equipped with a claw mount scope marked "NICKEL - ZIELFERNROHRF - MARBURG/L/SUPRAYLT - 2 1/2 X 52 - E/S D.P. Ser. Nr.140480/MADE IN GERMANY" with see through lens caps. The upper breech end of the barrel is lightly scroll engraved on both sides. The underside of the lower barrel is marked with "NPF" and eagle proof, as well as the matching serial number, "300" and "40.531". The receiver, forearm hardware, break lever and trigger guard are engraved with Germanic scroll designs. In addition the right side of the receiver is relief engraved with a wooded scene of two bucks battling, the left side has a relief engraved hunting dog and gold inlaid boar in a wooded scene and there is a relief engraved bear on the underside. The underside is also marked "MARHOLDT-PETERLONGO/INNSBRUCK-TYROL". The trigger guard has a gold "R/W". The serial number is marked on top of the right side receiver rail and "40.531" on the inside of the receiver. The receiver was casehardened and the remaining parts blue. Adjustable double triggers, tang mounted automatic safety with gold "S", ejectors, sling swivel mounted on the lower barrel and mounted with a nicely figured walnut multi-point checkered three piece forearm and pistol grip stock with a black grip cap, cheekpiece, vented Pachmayr recoil pad and sling swivel.

Excellent. The barrels retain 90% original blue finish with some thinning to a smooth gray at the muzzle end of the lower barrel, and some minor muzzle and high edge wear. The trigger guard and break lever retain 99% original blue finish. The receiver has a smooth dark gray patina. The wood has been freshened with a coat of varnish and remains very good with light handling marks and crisp checkering. The engraving is crisp. Mechanically fine. The scope is excellent with some edge wear on the object end and clear optics.
