Description:

This 22 gauge percussion shotgun started life in 1814 as a flintlock. The lock plates, hammers, forearm accent, trigger guard finial and top tang of the buttplate are floral scroll engraved. The serial number is marked in pen on the inside of the stock, is stamped on the bottom of each barrel and is stamped on both of the breech lugs. The barrels have a single steel bead sight on the raised concave rib, are both choked cylinder and there are pierced platinum vent holes. The breech end has been trimmed with percussion breeches installed. The hammers are the early flat style with replaceable strikers. Mounted on a nicely figured checkered straight grip stock with steel buttplate. Length of pull is 14 1/2 inches. With a wooden takedown case with retailer label, powder measure, powder flask, shot flask, bore brush, bore mop, oil bottle, lock plate disassembly tool, partially full cap tin and a box of patches.

Rating Definition:

Good as period refurbished, the barrels have a gray patina with most of the Damascus pattern visible and minor pitting overall. The markings on the rib are faint. Most of the engraving remains well defined. There is some oxidation near the breech area and on the hammers. The stock is very good with scattered scratches and dings with a tight hairline crack visible on the inside of the forend. Mechanically fine. The case and accessories are all good.
