Description:

Patented in 1863, the Elliott "Windage Gun" uses a spring loaded hook bolt which catches a recess in the back of the barrel rib to lock the barrels into place, with a screw head on the underside of the barrels engaging a slot on the water table for indexing and a break lever which lies along the triggerguard. Produced with a single bead sight, with the rib engraved and raised at the front and rear for the sight and the hook slot, respectively, with "Elliott's Patent" in gold and "WIGGAN ELLIOTT & Co LONDON" engraved on the rib. Chokes are improved modified, with 2 5/8 inch chambers and an extractor. Scroll engraving is present on the frame, locks, and hammers, with the Elliott's Patent markings on the tang and water table. Checkered straight wrist stock, with engraved furniture on the splinter forearm, a serrated horn buttplate, and a 13 3/4 inch length of pull. With a leather and hardwood case, green felt lined with cleaning tools, and a clipping from the April 5, 1990 edition of Shooting Times & Country Magazine with an article by Geoffrey Boothroyd on the Windage Gun and the firm of Wiggan & Elliott.

Rating Definition:

Very good as professionally refurbished. The barrel retains 95% of the brown finish, with a few dents on the muzzles, scattered handling marks and a strong Damascus pattern. The locks and frame show a mixed gray patina with mild spotting, and the triggerguard and hook under the lever show a dull blue finish with pitting and dents. The stock is fair, with mended cracks at the wrist and scattered dents and scratches. Case is poor, with separations at the edges and corners. Mechanically very good.
