Description:

The Sharps Model 1874 receiver is marked with the two line 1869 patent date on the left side and the serial number is marked on the upper tang. The rifle is fitted with a George Schoyen barrel. After losing everything in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, George C. Schoyen relocated to Denver, Colorado, where he established the reputation of manufacturing accurate barrels. He is one of the finest barrel makers of the mid to late 19th century. The top of the barrel is marked "GEO. SCHOYEN DENVER COLO". The barrel has a globe front sight and two filled dovetail slots (one near the front sight, one near the breech). The barrel and frame juncture is engraved. The upper tang is tapped (2 holes) for sight mounting. The action has a single plain trigger and the lever latch has been removed. Mounted on a smooth forearm and checkered pistol grip stock with cheekpiece and brass Schuetzen style buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good as period custom built with a master gunsmith made custom barrel. The barrel retains 80% of the custom blue finish with minor pitting overall. Traces of case colors remain on the action. The revarnished wood is also very good with a filled barrel band spring slot on the replacement forearm, a few minor handling marks and a hairline crack near the lock. Mechanically fine.
