Description:

This is an example of one of approximately 15,500 between revolvers Colt manufactured between 1847 to 1850. This revolver was manufactured in 1849. The top of the barrel is marked "-ADDRESS SAML COLT/NEW-YORK CITY-", "COLTS/PATENT" on the left side of the frame and the matching serial number is marked on the barrel, cylinder, frame, trigger guard, and back strap. The cylinder pin is marked "538" and the wedge is mis-matched (094). "COLTS/PATENT" is also marked on the cylinder over the serial number. The cylinder has the round stops, the trigger guard is the squareback variation, the barrel and cylinder were finished blue, the frame and hammer casehardened, and the trigger guard and back strap silver plated. Fitted with a one piece varnished walnut grip.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The lightly pitted metal surfaces have a mottled gray patina with deeper pitting present on the cylinder. The trigger guard retains strong age darkened silver plating in protected areas and the brass has an aged patina. The slightly undersize grip is good, showing lower edge wear, a chip on the right toe and a few small minor gouges on the right side. The wedge is very loose and the action needs work; the cylinder does not rotate when the hammer is cocked. The cylinder scene is absent and the markings are readable.
