Manufactured in 1851. The revolver has the round brass trigger guard and rectangular cylinder stops found on Third Model Dragoons. The top flat of the barrel is marked "ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW YORK CITY", the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT" over "U.S.", the left upper front of the trigger guard is marked with a small "F" and a "B" ahead of the trigger guard bow, cylinder and top of the back strap. The cylinder is roll engraved with the Federals and Indian battle scene and marked "MODEL U.S.M.R./COLT'S PATENT". The complete matching serial number is stamped on the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, cylinder and back strap, and the loading lever, wedge and arbor pin are un-numbered. Standard brass blade front sight and hammer notch rear sight and fitted with smooth one-piece walnut grip.

Rating Definition:

Good. The metal surfaces have a dark brown mottled patina with light spotting on the barrel and loading lever. The brass has an aged patina with a filler plug visible on center of butt and two similar plugs on top rear grip strap. The attractive period replaced fruitwood grip is very good with moderate wear on the lower edges, a few small cuts on the upper left side, and overall some minor dents and dings. The loading lever assemble is a crude replacement. The cylinder scenes and markings are lightly visible, while the remaining markings are clear. The action is fine.
