Winchester Model 1886 rifle manufactured in 1909. This scarce Deluxe Extra Lightweight Takedown rifle has a 22-inch round barrel and half magazine. The rifle has special order sights which consist of a Lyman "Winchester Express" front sight with ivory bead and special Lyman No. 6 rear sight with two leaves. The first leaf has a flat top with a large white triangle and the second leaf has a wide V-notch. A special order Lyman folding combination peep sight is mounted on the receiver tang. The rifle has a highly figured, fancy grain, piano-finished, walnut forearm and pistol grip stock. The stock and forearm have Winchester "Style H" checkering. The stock has a shotgun butt with black, hard rubber, checkered, buttplate with the Winchester logo in the center. The pistol grip has a black, hard rubber, cap embossed "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS". The rifle barrel, half-magazine, forearm cap and receiver are blued and the hammer and lever are color casehardened. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped: "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. PAT.OCT. 14. 1884.JAN. 20. 1885." in two lines ahead of the rear sight. "NICKEL STEEL 45-70"" is roll-stamped on the left side of the barrel; between the rear sight and the receiver. The oval Winchester "W/P" proof mark is stamped on the top of the barrel and receiver. The 1884 and 1885 patent dates are stamped on the lower tang behind the trigger and the serial number "148880" is stamped in block numerals behind the tang screw.

Excellent. The receiver and take-down collar have 97% of the original blue finish intact with only very minor edge wear on high points and some slight thinning on the bottom of the receiver. The hammer and lever retain 95% or more of the muted case colors with some traces of edge wear. Wear on the barrel, half-magazine and forearm cap is limited to several very minor scratches on the left side. The barrel and receiver markings are crisp. The stock and forearm are both in excellent condition and retain nearly all of the original oil finish. The checkering on the stock and forearm is crisp. Wear is limited to some shallow and nearly undetectable storage marks on the lower portion of the stock and the edges of the buttplate. The rifle appears to be in perfect mechanical condition. This is an outstanding example of a scarce, deluxe, Winchester Model 1886 Extra Lightweight Takedown rifle with special order front, rear and tang sights.
