Sharps New Model Metallic Cartridge Conversion Carbine

This is an example of a New Model series of carbine that was converted to a metallic cartridge breech loader following the Civil War. The carbine has the arsenal relined bore with three-groove rifling and is without model markings. Fitted with a sling bar with ring on the left side, Lawrence folding rear sight graduated to 800 yards, a fixed blade front sight and stock without the patch box. The rear sight base and receiver have the standard Sharps and R.S. Lawrence patent markings, with the serial number stamped on top of the receiver tang. Mounted on a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with iron buttplate and two script letter cartouches.

ConditionFine as arsenal refurbished. The barrel retains 70% of the arsenal blue finish thinning to a brown. The remaining metal surfaces retain 40% of the case colors. The wood is excellent with some minor pressure dents and scratches with clear cartouches. Mechanically fine.
