Description:

Mahogany French fitted style case measuring 15 3/4 inches wide, 9 1/2 inches deep and 2 1/2 inches tall. It is configured to hold a pair of Colt Model 1851 Navy revolvers. The exterior has an attractively varnished veneer, with brass fittings, including an oval lock escutcheons, inlaid brass strap reinforcement on the corners, brass inlaid caps on the lid corners, and a 2 inch long, 1 1/8 inch tall inscription oval on top. The interior is green velvet lined, with two covered compartments with ivory pulls and French-style contoured compartments for two revolvers, a single cavity mold, and a long "bag" profile powder flask. With a Sheffield production G. & J.W. Hawksley powder flask, measuring 8 inches long with a brown lacquer finished body.

Rating Definition:

The case is very good as restored. The exterior shows a few cracks and areas of chipped veneer, along with some scattered dents. A fine fiddleback grain pattern is visible, particularly on the lid, with attractive varnish. The relined interior is very fine with rich color throughout, showing only mild handling marks and rubbing from the contents with evidence of revarnish on the edges. Overall a highly attractive display item, which would go perfect for a pair of Colt 1851 Revolvers.
