Manufactured in 1863. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line New York U.S. America address, the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT" and the left trigger guard shoulder is marked "44 CAL. The cylinder is roll engraved with the Texas naval battle scene and marked "COLTS PATENT No7273/PATENTED SEPT 10th 1850". The partial serial number "9222" is also stamped on the cylinder, the number is identical to the other numbers and appears to have been stamped by Colt. The complete matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap, the partial serial number "9222" is marked on the arbor pin and the wedge is un-numbered. Blue barrel, cylinder and iron back strap, casehardened frame, loading lever and hammer, and silver plated brass trigger guard. Fitted with a one-piece checkered ivory grip with a unique relief carved eagle and nest with three eaglets being fed on the left side.

Rating Definition:

Fine as period refurbished. The revolver retains nearly 80% of the blue and casehardened finish. The barrel has some minor pitting on the right side of the muzzle. The cylinder has most of the blue finish remaining with edge and high point wear and retains 90% of the scene. The cylinder safety pins are mostly gone and the percussion nipples show moderate flash pitting. The loading lever, frame and hammer have nearly 90% of the casehardened finish with muted case colors. The frame screws have traces of niter blue finish. The trigger guard has 50% of the silver-plated finish remaining. The grip shows moderate wear and is very good overall. The ivory has a deep yellow patina. The checkering on the right side has worn nearly smooth and the high points of the relief-carved eagle show handling wear. The ivory has shrunk away from the back strap on both sides of the grip and there are several hairline age cracks in the butt. The barrel and frame markings are sharp. The action is tight and functions perfectly. This is an attractive example of a commercial production Colt Model 1860 Army revolver with desirable relief-carved ivory grip.
