Description:

Manufactured in 1878, which is the second year of production and is 1 of approximately 1,500 London addressed Colt Model 1877 Lightning revolvers. The revolver is fitted with a less encountered 3 1/2 inch ejectorless barrel (most London addressed 1877s had either a 4 inch or 5 inch barrel). The top of the barrel is marked "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co HARTFORD CT. U.S.A/DEPOT 14 PALL MALL LONDON" with the "COLT D. A. 38" in an etched panel on the left side. The bottom of the barrel is marked with a "crown/GP" and "crown/V" proofmarks and the same proofmarks appear alternating on each cylinder chamber. The left side of the frame is marked with the three line, three patent dates and the left rear of the trigger guard is marked "38 CAL". The frame and trigger guard are numbered "5354" and the back strap "2237". The loading gate is stamped with the assembly number "883". German silver blade front and frame notch rear sights and fitted with the correct one piece checkered rosewood grips found standard on the early production revolvers. Complete in an English oak case with brass disk inset on the outside of the lid, blue velvet lining with paper London address label affixed to the inside of the lid, four compartments, one with a lid with an ivory pull and a 16 round cartridge block that is full of Eley .380 rimmed short rounds (very similar to .38 Short Colt), and an original cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 98% of the original high polished blue finish with some high edge wear on the cylinder, thinning on the top of the back strap (from contact with the lining of the case) and overall a few minor scratches. There is a small area of minor spotting on the right side of the muzzle from storage. The frame retains virtually all of the original case colors, almost all are bright with some minor fading. The hammer and trigger retain 98% original bright niter blue with some thinning on the trigger and the hammer sides remain bright. The grips are excellent with some minor wear on the high edges, a few minor handling marks and sharp checkering. The revolver appears to have been fired very, very little, if at all. The case is very good, the lid is slightly warped and there are a few minor dings on the outside. The lining is very good with three worn areas from contact with the high areas of the revolver. A super nice Colt Model 1877 that was probably only handled when the owner wanted to show her off.
