Description:

Blade front sight and three leaf (two folding, one fixed) rear sight on a partially matted rib marked "HOLLAND & HOLLAND 98 NEW BOND STREET LONDON WINNER OF ALL THE FIELD RIFLE TRIALS 1883". The left side of the receiver is marked "CHARGE 4 DRAMS CASE 3 1/4 INCHES" and the lock plates are marked "HOLLAND & HOLLAND". The barrel flats are marked with various British proofs as well as "3.25", "450/440" and "CORDITE 52 GRS 365 BULLET". The water table is marked with two "crown/V" and "crown/BV" proof marks. The matching serial number is marked on the lower tang, water table, barrel flat and forearm hardware. Blue barrels, casehardened remaining parts, and mounted with a checkered walnut splinter forearm and pistol grip stock with a horn grip cap, cheekpiece, serrated horn buttplate and silver initial oval.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrels retain 95% period plum blue refinish with a some minor pitting on the left barrel over the forearm. The remaining metal surfaces retain 80% original case colors with some smooth gray patina on the bottom of the receiver and lower tang. The wood is very fine with a few minor pressure dents and handling marks, and some minor bruising in the otherwise crisp checkering. The markings are clear. Mechanically fine.
