Description:

Manufactured in 1937 in the rare 250-3000 Savage caliber. Winchester introduced the 250-3000 Savage caliber in 1937 to its line of Model 70s before discontinuing the caliber in 1949. As Model 70 expert and author Dean Whitaker has noted, that of the approximately 135,000 units manufactured during the first thirteen years of Model 70 production, 250-3000 Savage chambered variations make up an "extremely small percentage." The barrel features a ramp front sight with provisions for a hood and a filler block in the rear sight dovetail slot with the rear barrel section tapped (4 holes) for scope/sight mounting. A Griffin & Howe scope mount has been added to the left side of the receiver. Standard markings including Winchester proof on the barrel and receiver. Polished bolt numbered to gun, pre-war safety (top has been shortened), cloverleaf receiver tang and leather sling. Checkered straight comb pistol stock with checkered steel buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as partially refinished (cold blue on trigger guard). The rifle retains 85% original blue finish with some minor loss at the muzzle and a smooth brown patina on the floor plate and trigger guard. The buttplate is a smooth gray patina with minor pitting. The stock is fine with some minor handling marks and some wear in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
