This is another exceptional custom made Mauser action big-game hunting rifle made by Clayton Nelson. As previously noted Clayton Nelson is an adjutant instructor at the Trinidad School Of Gunsmithing and an NRA stock making instructor. He teaches basic and advanced stock making/inletting and is also an accomplished, advanced metal smith. This is a postwar Mauser action, probably made by FN, that has been fitted with a custom heavy weight magnum sporter contour barrel that is marked "CLAYTON NELSON RIFLE MAKER". The barrel has an integral, milled barrel rib on the rear of the barrel which has been fitted with a three leaf express rear sight; one standing and two folding. The sight has been regulated and the leafs are marked, "50, 100 and 200" on the back sides and each has a gold sighting line, and the barrel is engraved "404 JEFFERY" (a real big-game cartridge) on the rear of the barrel. The top of the rib has a matte finish with engraving on each end. It is also fitted with a barrel banded front sight base with a removable, Mauser type bead front sight. The bolt knob has been hand-checkered in two panels and the bolt shroud has been converted into a M70 style side wing safety. It has a custom one-piece trigger guard with a hinged floor plate that has been beautifully engraved on the exposed metal surfaces with a fine English scroll engraving. The center of the floor plate has an exceptionally nice, highly detailed panel scene that depicts two, large standing water buffalo, with the matching relief engraved, Rhinoceros head on the trigger guard. The trigger guard is signed "TJK" for (Tommy J. Kaye) a highly desirable and accomplished engraver. The rifle has been stocked in a beautiful extra fancy English walnut stock, that has multi-point 22-24 line per inch checkering in the pistol grip area and forend. The stock had an ebony forend tip with an engraved Neidner style grip cap with compartment for extra front sights. The stock also has two stock bolts with engraved heads.

Excellent as custom made with 98% plus of the rust blue finish overall, with the edges of the floor plate and grip cap, thinning to a gray patina. The stock is excellent with a few minor handling marks and with excellent checkering overall with a light wear spot on the left side of the pistol grip area. Mechanically excellent. Excellent, beautiful rifle ready to head to Africa for that once in a life time Safari!
