This is an excellent example of a 1940 dated WWII Mauser Banner Police Luger pistol rig with desirable "Eagle/L" Police proof. The top of the chamber area stamped is 1940, for the year of manufacture with the Mauser/Banner logo on the front toggle. The standard "Eagle/L" Police proof is stamped on the right side of the barrel extension with the Nazi "Eagle/N" commercial proof on the left side of the barrel extension and the breechblock. Un-numbered barrel that carries the small "S/42" proofmark on the underside, a small "Eagle/655" Waffenamt proof on the left side, and absent of the eagle/firing proof on the right side, indicating that it was an armorer replacement barrel for some reason. The full serial number is stamped on the front of the frame with "5562" stamped and the left side of the barrel extension, with no number on the underside of the barrel. The last two digits of the serial number "62" are stamped on the various small parts. Since this is a Police Contract Luger it correctly has the remnants of the sear bar over the side plate. The pistol has a salt blue finish and checkered walnut grips. Complete with two original Type II all blue police magazines that are stamped on the aluminum bases, "1/5562/x" and "2/5562/x". Also comes with an outstanding 1940 dated brown leather police holster marked "SCHAMBACH & Co./BERLIN/1940/Police Eagle" proofmark on the back and unmarked takedown tool.

Excellent. The pistol retains 97% plus original blue finish with some edge and high spot wear. The grips are also excellent with nice sharp checkering and showing only minimal handling marks. The holster is very fine with nice tight stitching and clear sharp markings. This is an unusual holster in that it is brown to begin with, however it is also made from two different types of leather; a medium brown cordovan color on the back with a duller brown almost, painted leather look on the front and flap. A very unusual color combination for a police holster that matches the scarcity of this excellent Police Luger rig. As noted this exceptional Luger has all matching numbers to include both magazines.
