Description:

This is a very fine example of a pre-WWI DWM Model 1908 German Navy Luger Rig. These were the standard pre-WWI Navy Lugers as issued to the Imperial German Navy prior to WWI, through WWI and into the Weimar era. This Navy Luger has the second pattern (upper) safety area marked "GESICHERT" with no chamber date with the "DWM" logo marked on the front toggle. The left side of the barrel extension has the double Crown over "M" proofmarks with the smaller Imperial "Crown" firing proof; later being repeated on the left rear section of the barrel and the "Crown/M" proof also on the underside of the barrel. It is numbered in the military manner with the full serial number stamped on the major parts with the last two digits correctly stamped on the various small parts. As noted the magazines that accompany this pistol are all original Navy versions that have the nickel plated body with the wooden bases that have the concentric circles on the ends, with "Crown/M" Navy proofs and the serial numbers running lengthwise on the base. The pistol magazine was originally numbered "6576" which has been restamped "2225" which now matches the pistol. The two spare magazines are numbered "5531" and "2024", both with a single Crown "M" Navy acceptance proof on each base. The attached Navy board stock is matching to the Luger and the attaching iron is stamped with the serial number "2225b". The backside of the walnut stock is correctly proofed with a single "Crown/M" Imperial Navy proof and the stock disc is stamped "II/T.D./199". These same property markings (II/T.D./199) are stamped on the rear grip strap of the Luger pistol. The double leather magazine pouch is dark brown in color with no markings, single closure tab on the front with a single brass stud and a single horizontal loop on the back that is intended for the shoulder/carrying straps for the holster. The holster itself is an original unmarked Navy model that accommodates the six-inch barrel and has the cleaning rod pouch sewn on the side, with the pouch for the takedown tool on the inside of the flap. This lot also includes an original Navy proofed takedown tool along with the later all steel cleaning rod with the spiral end.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 80% of the blue finish overall with blue loss on the side plate, muzzle area and lower grip straps. The markings are clear and distinct. 50% of the original straw colors remain intact. The grips are also in very fine condition with nice distinct checkering showing light wear and handling marks on the left grip with general wear overall. The stock is in fine condition showing numerous handling marks, light pressure dents and dings with visible proofs. The holster is very good with a nice even original black color overall showing minor scuffs and scratches with more wear on top of the flap. The magazine pouch and shoulder straps are in good condition overall with the pouch showing much wear on the front with heavy gouges and age cracking with the straps showing much wear overall, also showing much age cracking.
