Description:

This is an excellent example of a very early production Mauser Banner Swiss 06/34 Luger pistol. This very early Luger falls into the Banner Lugers that were issued with no letter suffix on the serial number. These were some of the very first commercial Lugers sold by Mauser after the rise of the Nazis and were manufactured with all new Mauser parts. This example has the old style Model 1906 barrel extension and frame with the fast taper barrel, first pattern polished lower safety area, grip safety and no stock lug. The frame has been correctly fitted with the coil mainspring. It is estimated that only a few hundred were ever manufactured in the early 1930s before the factory added the letter suffix. These can be found with or without the Swiss crest over the chamber, this example was manufactured without a crest. This example has the standard Mauser Banner logo on the front toggle. The left side of the barrel extension and breechblock have the correct early Mauser "Crown/U" commercial proofmark. It is numbered in the military manner with the full serial number (1896) stamped on the front of the frame, barrel extension and underside of the barrel with the last two digits (96) stamped on the various other parts. Blue finish with straw colored small parts, standard fixed sights, blue unmarked magazine with an unmarked aluminum base and fitted with checkered walnut grips. Comes in an original black leather bound retailers/storage case with five compartments. It contains the Luger, magazine, a small Walther marked tin case (with oil bottle and cleaning cloth inside), wooden handled brass cleaning rod and wire bore brush.

Rating Definition:

Exceptional. The pistol retains 99% of the original blue finish and 99% of the vivid original straw colors. The grips are excellent showing some minor handling marks and sharp checkering. The markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent. The display case is excellent with nearly all of the leather cover intact, showing only a couple of minor scrapes on the underside. The nickel plated corner buttons, locks, hinges, front hasps and carrying handle are all excellent. This is the Holy Grail of Mauser Lugers!
