Description:

Manufactured in 1900. The left side of the receiver is marked "U.S." over "MODEL 1898 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" and the serial number. Blade front and tangent rear sights and mounted with a smooth straight grip stock, with a "J.S.A./1900" cartouche on the left side ahead of the wrist, a circled script "P" (remarked) on the underside behind the trigger guard and a flat buttplate with compartment. The stock is Italian walnut, which Springfield used for a short time. The rifle comes with a leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The rifle retains traces original blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The barrel bands have a smooth brown patina. The receiver has faded to a silver-gray. The sanded/reoiled stock is fine with some very scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
