Description:

This is an excellent example of a Smith & Wesson Model 1917 U.S. Army Revolver. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address/patent dates, "S.&W. D.A. 45" on the left side and "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" on the underside. The upper left corner of the frame is marked with the ordnance bomb and "eagle head/S1" directly above the rear of the trigger guard bow. The butt is marked "U.S./ARMY/MODEL/1917/No/142/247". The rear cylinder face is marked with the matching serial number and an "eagle head/S24" proof. The inside of the frame is marked with an "eagle head/S2" and the number "8882", the same number appears on the crane. Blue finish with casehardened hammer and trigger, blade front and frame notch rear sights, and fitted with smooth walnut grips with the matching serial number correctly hand written on the inside of the right panel and a lanyard ring on the butt.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 97% original bright blue finish showing some mild muzzle and high edge wear, a distinct cylinder drag line and some widely scattered small areas of minor surface rust on side plate and above grips. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
