This desirable U.S. Army Colt Model 1911 was manufactured in early 1917 shortly before the United States entered WWI. The left side of the slide is marked with the two line, two block, Colt factory patent dates of 1897-1913 and the factory address, followed by the Rampant Colt, behind the serrations. The right side is roll marked "MODEL OF 1911.U.S.ARMY". The left side of the frame is roll stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY"; and the right side is roll stamped with only the serial number "No. 150818". The left side of the frame is stamped with the initials "GHS", U.S. Ordnance inspector, Major Gilbert H. Stewart. The barrel is correctly stamped with the separate "H" and "P" proofs on the chamber area. The rear of the slide has the small letter "H", provisional inspector stamp above the firing pin stop. It is fitted with the early checkered slide stop release, checkered thick thumb safety, wide spur checkered hammer, flat mainspring housing and short horned grip safety. It is fitted with a WWI Colt half-tone lanyard loop magazine. It is fitted with checkered walnut grips with a diamond pattern around the screws. The pistol was shipped to Rock Island Armory on May 23, 1917 as one of 186 pistols. This excellent pistol is complete with a brown cardboard collector's box.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 97% plus original blue finish overall with very minor edge and high spot wear with thinning on the mainspring housing. The grips are also excellent with nice sharp checkering overall with some minor nicks in the checkering and some minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. An exceptional WWI Colt Model 1911 pistol.
