Description:

Drawing design elements from the Fairbairn-Sykes Commando Knife, the Case V-42 was made for the 1st Special Service Force, a Canadian-American composite unit trained for alpine warfare, the U.S.M.C. Marine Raiders, and in limited numbers for the United States Navy. Measuring 12 5/8 inches overall, the double edged spear point hollow ground blade is 7 1/4 inches long, with the serrated thumbrest and "Case" on the elongated ricasso. The hilt is fitted with the leather padded oval guard, a ribbed leather washer grip, and a flared and pointed "skull crusher" pommel. Included is a blade is an e-mail from Katie Shonts-Saar, Case Historian and Archivist, related to an evaluation of this item performed via correspondence.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The bright edge of the blade shows some minor brown spotting, and the top of the guard has been polished bright, with the rest of the dagger showing 98% of the original blue finish, with a particularly high polish on the blade. The grip is very good, with some light dents and scuffs. Scarce in any condition, the harsh nature of amphibious and alpine warfare took it's toll on almost all of these weapons, making high-condition examples very rare finds.
