The rifle has the WWI production features which include: Style "S" stock with grasping grooves and two-reinforcing bolts, high hump handguard and buttplate with no checkering. The receiver has a dark oil-quenched casehardened finish, the barrel and lower barrel band are blue, the bolt, buttplate, trigger, trigger guard, floor plate and upper barrel band are parkerized and the rear sight leaf face and "ON" side of the magazine cut-off are bright. Rear sight with 2,750 yard volley notch, flat rear sight elevation knob and dished windage knob. The barrel is stamped "S A" with Ordnance shell and flame insignia and the date "10-17". The stock wrist has the Ordnance final "DAL" inspection mark. A circled "P" proof mark is behind the trigger guard. The face of the bolt safety lug is stamped with the Rock Island Arsenal steel lot code "C13". A unit rack mark "B/59" is stamped on the upper stock wrist.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The rifle retains nearly 30% of the faded original blue, casehardened and parkerized finish. The stock and handguard are very good with scattered minor handling and storage marks. The final inspection mark and proof mark are clear. The barrel, buttplate, stock, handguard and most of the smaller components appear to be original to the rifle. The bolt has a Rock Island Arsenal body and Springfield Armory bolt sleeve, cocking piece and safety. World War I production M1903 rifles are difficult to find with original finish and components. This is a good looking example of a hard to find and desirable variation of the M1903 Rifle.
