Description:

This is a fine Colt M1911 pistol manufactured in late 1918 with the new block style lettering without serifs, with the Colt military brushed blue finish, (not a black army finish). The slide is marked with the two-line/two-block Colt markings with the Rampant Colt behind the slide serrations, with "MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY" on the right side. The original "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" markings on the frame were removed and nicely remarked with the circled "JMG" proof above the magazine release. The serial number "297084" is stamped on the right side. The pistol has the original WWI parts such as the checkered Colt wide spur hammer, flat mainspring housing, checkered slide stop and type III thumb safety. It is fitted with a WWI Colt barrel that is marked over the chamber area with the intertwined "H/P" proof mark with "M and 5" marked on the underside of the barrel in front of the lug. Magazine is absent. It is complete with a reproduction brown storage box.

Rating Definition:

Very good as partially refinished/remarked with 70% of the original blue finish on the balance with blue loss on the grip straps and left front frame extension, where it was remarked with the United States Property. The grips are in good condition with nice distinct checkering showing handling marks overall with wear across the tops of the checkering on both sides.
