This is a very rare example of a Ruger trademark application revolver marked "Speed-Six" on the left side of the frame. It is believed that two or three Ruger Bearcats were marked "Service-Six" and "Speed-Six" and perhaps one was marked "Security-Six." Ruger used these Bearcats when applying for trademark for the Six Series of revolvers. To apply for the trademark, Ruger was required to show an example of something marked with the trade names of the Six Series of revolvers and this "something" did not necessarily need to be an actual Six Series revolver. Ruger used the very affordable Bearcat as an example to bear the names of the Six Series revolvers. The Speed Six was trademarked in 1970. The Speed-Six frame marking is not aligned, but is indicative of the style used on these one-of-a-kind factory stamped trademark application guns. The serial number with the "90" prefix, which was added to Bearcats manufactured in 1969, is on the right side of the frame and the left side of the barrel has the Ruger address. Fitted with Ruger medallion grips. Although the factory box is for a Ruger .22LR automatic pistol with a 4 3/4 inch barrel, the box is numbered to the gun and appears to be factory applied.
