This is an outstanding example of a custom light weight sporting rifle made by Clayton N. Nelson using a highly desirable WWII G33/40 Mauser action. The 33/40 actions are highly prized for these rifles as they were manufactured as a small ring, light weight, K98 style rifle developed for WWII Alpine troops. This rifle is fitted with a custom light weight, sporter contour barrel with a barrel band front sight base, raised rear sight base with barrel mounted center sling swivel stud. The rifle is chambered in ".280 Rem." and is so engraved on the rear of the barrel. The front sight has a spring loaded hood with a removable bead front sight with a German type, single standing rear sight, with a gold sighting line on the back side of the leaf. This rifle is fitted with a custom trigger guard with a hinged floor plate and inside the trigger guard bow, floor plate release. It is fully engraved and signed "TJK", (Tommy J. Kaye) at the front of the floor plate. It features a beautifully executed fine English scroll engraving with a large buck mule deer in a oval picture frame in the center of the floor plate. The detail work on the deer hear is just awesome, with super detail, right down to the nubs on the horns and hair on the face and neck. The top of the receiver has been fitted with a set of custom made scope bases that give the action a "square bridge" look, that are dovetailed for a set of talley type scope rings (not included). The rifle has been stocked in a extra fancy English walnut stock with beautiful grain throughout with super fine, multi-point, 22-24 line checkered pattern in the pistol grip area and on the forend of the stock. The stock has a ebony forend tip with a Neidner style grip cap and buttplate, both engraved to match the floor plate in a fine highly detailed English scroll engraving.

Excellent with 98% plus of the rust blued finish overall with edge and high spot wear. The complete trigger guard, floor plate, grip cap and buttplate polished to a coin finish before engraving and left in that finish. The stock is excellent with 99% of the hand rubbed finish overall with some minor handling marks on the side of the stock and cheekpiece where it was handled. The checkering is crisp and sharp with just a couple of minor handling marks. The engraving is spectacular, exceptionally well executed and laid out on the metal parts. The action is excellent. What a beautiful, light weight (7.25 lbs) custom hunting rifle, you just can't find these anymore!
