Description:

This is a very scarce/rare example of a WWII Walther PPK pistol as issued to the German Postal Service (DRP) that was captured, after WWII in Foggia Italy. The German Postal service (Deutsche Reichs Post) was established in the late 1800s and ran through WWII right up to the end of the war, until it was disestablished by the Allies in 1945. This service is identified as the "DRP" and any such marked Walther pistols are considered very scarce as they were not issued in large numbers and most did not see hard use, so not many were actually made. This specific pistol, was captured by Mayron Scott, a U.S. Air Force Segregant who served with the 15th U.S. Army Air Corp near Foggia Italy. The 15th Air Force was established in late 1943 and served through the end of WWII, with the first commander being Jimmy Doolittle. The actual pistol is stamped with the "D.R.P." markings on the left side of the frame with the serial number on the right side. The slide has the standard Walther Banner and two-line factory markings followed by "Mod PPK". The right side of the slide, chamber area and muzzle have the standard commercial "Crown/N" proofs. It is fitted with brown plastic, Walther banner marked wraparound grip and is complete with a single blued Walther banner marked magazine.

Rating Definition:

Very fine condition with 90% of the blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear with blue loss on the front end of the slide, with minor holster wear/blue loss on the right side of the front portion of the slide. The grips are very fine condition with nice color overall with excellent checkering and markings with some minor stress/age cracks on the upper rear section of the grips on both sides. The markings are clear and sharp. A very fine example of a scarce Walther PPK pistol with D.R.P. markings and capture letter.
