This scarce rifle is one of 1,500 spare barreled receivers manufactured for the country of Egypt by Fabrique Nationale, as imported by Century Arms in the 1960s/70s. These rifles were manufactured right at the end of the normal FN 49 production, and were intended as spare receiver and barrels to augment the original FN 49 Egyptian contract rifles before FN shut down the complete production line. All the barreled receiver and spare/repair parts were purchased and assembled by Century Arms in the 1960/70s using all these parts. Although somewhat rare they will all have a mix of parts. The unusual aspect of these rifles is that the receiver does not have the regular Crown/Egyptian Crest of King Farouk but instead has the "Eagle of Saladin". Saladin was the Great Muslim leader who united the Muslim world in the Middle East and defeated the army of King Richard the Lionhearted at the Battle of Hattin in 1187 A.D. during the First Crusade of the Holy Wars. In this battle Saladin was to amass a hugh army that besieged and recaptured the city of Jerusalem. The receiver has the one-line FN address on the right side with the small serial number "D10195" stamped below the cocking handle and the "Eagle of Saladin" over farsi writing on the receiver ring. Fitted with a Belgium Army contract top cover as it is stamped with serial number 10628 and small Belgium perron proof mark and it has the English range graduations (1-10) on the rear sight. The left side of the receiver has the milled slot for the sniper rife base (not included). Fitted with the milled trigger guard and detachable magazine assembly. New FN produced hardwood replacement stock and hand guard set. The exposed barrel has a very small Century Arms import mark.

Near mint with 99% of the arsenal refurbished dark black parkerized type finish with no appreciable wear on the parts. The stock and handguards are near mint with no appreciable wear or handling marks. A very scarce rifle in top condition!
