Description:

This is a very nice example of a rare WWII Military 98K "Commercial Sales" rifle, which is not to be confused with the Mauser Commercial sales rifle and are probably one of the rarest wartime K98 rifles. Only a handful at best were actually produced throughout WWII with most being destroyed or converted into sporting rifles after WWII. These late war commercial rifles were intended to help support the war effort by generating money for the Nazi Party and in some instances allowed local Gauleiters to supply arms to the local civilian/miliary units. In the same configuration as K98 Military rifles, but only had commercial proofs with no military acceptance proofs usually with a better commercial grade blue finish. This example has a blank receiver ring with the side wall marked "MOD 98". The left front edge of the receiver is stamped with the small Nazi "Eagle/N" commercial proof mark. The left side of the barrel is stamped with the serial number (35) next to "8 X 57 J S/ Eagle N/a" small manufacturer's marks of a proof inside a "shield/5/44" indicating manufacture in June 1944. The barrel underside is marked "40D107" with two "Eagle/37" Waffenamt proofs indicating a 1940 barrel proofed at the J.P Sauer & Sohns factory. Milled barrel bands floor plate and trigger guard. The barrel bands and floor plate are all scribed/etched with the number "35". With a wartime bolt that has had the serial number removed with unnumbered parts except the rear of the firing pin that is also etched "35". Standard wartime laminated stock and handguard, both are unnumbered or proofed, and complete with a WWII leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as refurbished with a 95% of the post war arsenal dipped type blue blue finish overall. The stock and handguard are both in very good condition showing minor old cleaning and restaining. A very rare wartime commercial configured K98 rifle.
