Description:

This is one of 4,000 New Model carbines manufactured by Evans Repeating Rifle Co. from 1877-1879. These carbines are easily distinguished from the earlier models by the dust cover on the right side of the action. The top of the barrel is marked "EVANS REPEATING RIFLE MECHANIC FALLS, ME. PAT. DEC. 8, 1868 & SEPT. 16, 1871 U.S.A." ahead of the rear sight. Solid fixed front sight and stepped military rear sight. The underside of the barrel is stamped with the letter "P" along with "36" which is under the forearm. The stock and forearm are replacements with checkered on the Schnabel forearm. The carbine does not have a barrel band.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The carbine retains 60% original blue finish with the balance a mottled gray patina showing some mild spotting and a number of mild scratches. The revarnished wood is fine with a few minor pressure dents. Mechanically fine.
