Description:

Manufactured in 1861 and is a Model 4 (serial number range 1,351-2,400) with a 3 1/2 inch 31 caliber octagon barrel, Hartford barrel address without the pointing hand motif and fluted cylinder. The barrel is numbered to the gun. A cylinder flute is stamped with the 1850 patent date. Blue finish with casehardened hammer and loading lever and fitted with a one- piece smooth ivory grip. The original Colt partitioned case is lined in brown velvet and contains an eagle powder flask (double face), a two cavity brass bullet mold marked "COLT'S/PATENT" and a cap tin.

Rating Definition:

Very good as partially refinished (cylinder). The frame and barrel retain 30% original blue finish with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The cylinder has a smooth gray patina. Some light pitting is present. The period replacement grip is good showing much shrinkage and hairline age cracks. The ivory has an attractive mustard yellow color overall. Action needs work as cylinder does not always rotate when action is cycled. The case is very good with a few cracks on the lid, a number of minor handling marks and high spot wear on the lining.
