A) Canon Barrelled Flintlock Pistol

Manufacturer: Unknown
Model: Flintlock
Type: Pistol
Gauge: 65
Barrel: 8 1/4 irregular
Finish: bright
Grip:
Stock: walnut
Item Views: 1185
Serial Number:
Catalog Page: 28
Class: Antique
Description:

Consignor notes indicate that this is a Smits Amaertrich German flintlock pistol. It features a brass cannon barrel and lightly engraved ramrod tubes, trigger guard, side plate, and buttplate with floral scroll patterns. The pistol has no makers or proofmarks. It is fitted on a smooth walnut stock and includes a flared hickory ramrod.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel has an aged patina with small round dent on the upper barrel flat ahead of the breech, some minor dings and marks, and some verdigris along the right where the barrel meets the stock. The remaining surfaces have a pewter toned gray patina (possibly from having been cleaned) with light pitting and some marks and scratches. The surface of the frizzen is brown with some strike marks. The wood is good with a sliver absent on the front of the forend on the left, a chip in front of the lockplate and some other small chips on the edges, a small crack on the left side of the forend at the foremost pin, and some surface wear throughout. The action holds half and full cock but the trigger requires some work.

B) Unmarked Percussion Conversion Pistol

Manufacturer: Unmarked
Model: Pocket Percussion
Type: Pistol
Gauge: 52 percussion
Barrel: 7 1/4 inch part octagon
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grip:
Stock: walnut
Item Views: 1185
Serial Number:
Catalog Page: 28
Class: Antique
Description:

This small percussion pistol is 12 inches in total length and looks to have been converted from flintlock with a percussion hammer and bolster and a safety arm in place of a frizzen all of which are lightly engraved. The pistol is unmarked and features a brass blade front and notch rear sights mounted on a part octagon barrel with decorative notches at the end of the octagonal section, a casehardened lockplate, and brass trigger guard, side plates, ramrod tubes and butt insert. It is fitted on a smooth full length stock with horn forend cap and includes a wooden ramrod with contrasting flared tip.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The pistol retains 50% of the original finish thinning to form a brown patina. The lock has a brown patina with some evidence of the dark case colors. The brass components have an aged patina. There are some overall dings, scratches, and marks and some edge wear. The stock is very good with scratches and dings throughout and some minor chips on the butt. The action is inoperable at present and the hammer has a small section absent on the upper front edge.
