Finish: blue

Description:

This unusual rifle has a hammer and serpentine lever and latch very similar to the Cosmopolitan, Gross' patent and Gwyn and Campbell "Union" or "Grapevine" carbines. The frame is solid iron with a protrusion on the underside similar to the Spencer carbine that houses the hinge pin for the breech block. The lock has a downward curve with a beveled edge and isn't recessed into the stock. There are no visible markings. Dove tailed blade front sight and elevation adjustable rear sight with a 6 1/2 inch base and sliding ladder adjustor. Mounted with a smooth straight grip stock with an ill-fitting brass buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrel has a mottled grayish brown patina with scattered minor pitting. The remaining metal surfaces have a dark patina with several minor dings and some minor pitting. The stock is good with a replacement piece repair along the right side of the tang, a minor crack on the left side, and some minor dents, dings and scratches. The stock is ill-fitting at the receiver and remains solid. Mechanically fine.
