Description:

Measuring 41 inches overall, with a 35 inch double fuller blade, marked "US/B.H/1861." on the right ricasso and "AMES MF'G CO/CHICOPEE/MASS" on the left. Brass hilt, with a 2-branch guard, helmet pommel, and a wire wrapped leather grip. Included with the sword is a brown lacquer finished sheath marked "JHC" and "37" on the drag, a black leather capbox marked "BOYD MAKER/BOSTON" on the inner flap, a black leather cartridge box marked "W. KINSEY & CO/NEWARK-N.J.", and a rawhide sword belt with a brown exterior, white interior also marked for Kinsey & Company of Newark, and a silver accented gilt finished American Eagle belt buckle.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The blade shows a bright patina overall, with patches of pitting and a number of dings on the upper two-thirds of the edge. The brass components have a well aged patina, with some grip wear exposing the underlying wood. The fine buffed belt shows some mild scuffs and cracks, the boxes are good, and the scabbard is very good.
