The left side of the receiver is marked "EDWARD MAYNARD / PATENTEE / MAY 27. 1851. / DEC. 6. 1859." The right side is marked "MANUFACTURED BY / MASS. ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS." The serial number is marked on the lower tang. Regulation cavalry sling bar and ring on the left side of the receiver. The front sight is absent and the rear sight has two folding leaves graduated up to 500 yards. It is fitted with a smooth straight grip stock with boxed "GWP" and "JM" cartouches and a slightly curved smooth buttplate. A screw is absent on the upper tang

Rating Definition:

Very good. The rifle retains 90% of the blue finish on the barrel with some scratches, dings, and light oxidation. The frame has some dark case colors, and it and the remaining components have otherwise a mixture of gray and brown patina. The markings are clear. The wood is very fine with a golden tone, clear cartouches, and some minor scratches and dings. There are some small chips at the junction with the frame. A tang screw and the front sight are missing. Mechanically excellent.
