Description:

This model 1813 Army and Navy Flintlock pistol was manufactured by Simeon North of Middletown, Connecticut, between 1813 and 1815. North manufactured a total of 1626 Model 1813 pistols of which 85 were the 1813 "Transition Model" with flat lock plate. This pistol has the later lock plate with flat, beveled, front and slightly rounded rear. The lock plate is roll-stamped "S.NORTH" in a downward curve over an eagle and shield motif flanked by the letters "U" and "S" above "MIDLn CON." in an upward curve. The lock has brass, tilted, un-fenced, pan and reinforced hammer. The pistol has the distinctive, double band, front strap and stock that terminates flush with the strap end. The .69 caliber, part round barrel is stamped with "P/US" markings perpendicular to the bore. The side plate, back strap, buttcap, trigger guard, barrel and barrel band are bright finished steel. The trigger and lock are color case-hardened. The oil-finished walnut stock is stamped with an illegible oval inspection stamp behind the side plate. The pistol has a plain hickory ramrod.

Rating Definition:

Good. The pistol appears to be in original flintlock configuration. The ramrod is a period replacement. The barrel and other iron components have been cleaned and have a silver-gray patina with scattered patches of dark age discoloration. The barrel has moderate-heavy flash pitting that extends nearly to the barrel band. The barrel band has deep pitting and discoloration. The case colors on the lock and trigger have a dark patina. The lock components have moderate flash pitting and handling wear. The top jaw and screw on hammer is a professionally made modern replacement. The North name and address on the lock are clear but the Eagle motif is faint. The stock is in good overall condition with moderate handling wear. This is a solid example of a scarce significant U.S. North Model 1813 Army and Navy Flintlock pistol.
