Patterned after a French design. Measuring 25 1/2 inches long, with a 19 1/2 inch straight triple fuller blade, marked with a spread-winged eagle over the Ames address on one ricasso, "UNITED/STATES/1939/WS" on the reverse. Single piece brass hilt, with "WS" and "MS" on the guard, scaled grip, and American Eagles on the pommel. With a brass and black leather sheath. Notes from the consignor state that this sword was part of a 311 sword procurement for the Massachusetts Volunteer Artillery using Militia Act funds.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with mild spotting on the bright polished, fine blade, an aged patina in the lower areas of the brass, and some light handling marks overall. All markings are clearly crisp and legible. The leather on the scabbard is fine.
