Description:

Originally founded as the Hollow Sword Blade Company of Shotley Bridge, the firm was bought out by Herman Mohll (later Anglicized as Mole) before the Revolutionary War and then later be re-acquired by Robert Mole, Herman's descendant, circa 1830. Mole swords were brought into the United States before the Revolution broke out and were also smuggled in by Confederate blockade runners during the Civil War in addition to Mole's extensive business with the British Government. This example measures 40 3/4 inches long with a 35 1/4 inch single fuller blade marked "MOLE" on the spine, a steel stirrup guard marked "SC" on the rear quillon, helmet pommel and a ribbed wooden grip.

Rating Definition:

Good. The steel shows an untouched original mixed brown and gray patina that is darker on the hilt with some mild pitting and handling marks on the blade and a few minor cracks in the guard. The grip is fair with some cracks and none of the wrapping remaining. A scabbard is not included.
