Description:

Produced in the Victorian era, this is a complete set of miniature armor with shield. The Victorian era was accompanied by the romanticization of the Medieval period and, combined with an increasing consumer class, led to the creation of reproductions of bygone armor and weapons for display in homes. The armor is 31 inches tall and set on a 9 1/2 inch wide by 6 inch tall brick red base with rods to support the armor from the inside. This example has a full visor helmet with raised comb and mouth slits. Only the rear side of the lower back down to the back of the knees and the heels are exposed. There are roped edges and serrated rivets on most components aside for the back and calf pieces which are smooth. The shield and breast plate are grooved. The elbow couters and knee poleyns have wings. The arms are partially mobile with the various arm components fixed to one another and the right gauntlet absent. Similarly, the leg components are also fixed together but are somewhat mobile with pointed toes on the sabatons.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The armor has aged to an attractive dark grey patina with light pitting overall and some light oxidation particularly on the interior surfaces. The helmet and some of the other sections have some brown patina. The wooden base and rods have some chips and general wear with a crack or separation on each side of the base. The rods also have some edge wear. Some black paint is visible at the base of the rods and on the interior.
