Both are marked with an "R". The lock plate is marked with the "Springfield Armory Eagle/Shield/Clutching Arrows" to the left of "U.S./SPRINGFIELD". Stock has the inspector's cartouche or "P" behind the lower tang and inspector marks "SWP/1881" in an oval cartouche on the left side above the trigger. The barrel bands are stamped with a "U" on the right side. It features sling swivels, two-piece trigger plate and trigger guard bow, smooth buttplate, and iron cleaning rod.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The rifle retains 70% of the blue finish with various minor marks and the blue fading to brown on the barrel behind the rear sight and some oxidation and pitting on the muzzle and some finish fading on the lock plate. The casehardened breech and tang retain 60% plus fiery case colors with some oxidation. The buttplate has an attractive brown patina. The otherwise fine stock has various minor dings, scratches, some colored marks, and some varnish thinning and a chip in front of the trigger guard. Mechanically excellent.
