The right side of the frame is stamped with the eagle/shield motif above "U.S./SPRINGFIELD/1872" with the left side stamped "MODEL 1871." The upper tang has the two-line Remington patent date marking (1864 and 1868) and the two barrel bands are marked with the letter "U". It has a blue ladder rear sight graduated to 9 (900 yards) and a bright cleaning rod. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with an oval "ESA" inspector cartouche on the left side wrist and a square cartouche on the lower wrist behind the lower tang. It has a buttplate stamped "US" on the tang and a "6" is present on the back of the buttplate and the bottom of the butt.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The frame retains some of the case colors with an otherwise mottled gray patina. The barrel and other armory bright finished components remain bright with some minor marks. The wood is very fine with various minor dings, dents, and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
